Concept

CryptoQuest is a mobile app powering Web3 real-world exploration games.

Scenario

John travels to Paris, but he doesn’t know the city very well. He could use tour guides but most of those aren’t very exciting so while he was chatting with a friend, he finds out about an app that combines city-exploration and crypto-rewards, so he gives it a try, downloads it, sets up an account and starts looking for a game…and voila! An active game that’s about to kick off in a few hours and he can still join it! He confirms his participation by signing a transaction and goes to the starting area, delves throughout the hidden gems of Paris, visiting impressive landmarks, learning new insights about the city, solving riddles and taking some pictures. Surprisingly he was in the top 5 players thus he got awarded 🏆 He also sees some new collectibles inside the app. The creator of the experience, a local Parisian, is also rewarded continuously, as more and more tourists discover the city through his game.

How it works

Our real-world exploration games are based on two types of users, Creators, users that want to create experiences for others to join, and Explorers, users that want to participate in a game. Of course, a user can be both.

Both types of users are rewarded, Creators for the quality of their games and the number of people that join them, and Explorers for their in-game results.

App modes & flows

• Creator

  • As a Creator you can create a city exploring game by
    • Designating points of interest (POIs) 📌
      • Add some difficulty to them, like solving a riddle 🤔, taking a photo 📸, or just by stepping around the designated area 🐾
    • Having people join your game and start it once everyone’s boarded 🚀
  • Publish it 🚀 to the blockchain by interacting with our contracts and backend directly from the phone, this will allow other people to see the game and join it! 🎲
    • This will result in various actions on our backend, from contract state changes to saving data to our Tableland infrastructure

• Explorer

  • Sees a list of all the available games in his current location and can join them
    • Game starts 🏃‍♂️
      • The explorer goes through the various checkpoints, solving riddles and completing the checkpoints ✅
        • Each checkpoint visit will be validated by our backend which in turn will cause blockchain changes, such as state alterations and database operation and notifications for the end-user.
      • Explorers are rewarded based on their results 🏆
        • Transparency is important for us thus our data can be inspected by anyone who’s curious about what’s going on with a specific game.

  

Principles

As the project is being developed, our ideas, features, assumptions are continuously refined, but everything is based on a set of principles we wanted to share with you.

• Accessible to everyone. We don’t think that projects that gatekeep participants in order to create artificial scarcity are sustainable long term. Value should be created from genuine engagement and rewarded correctly. Users that don’t have any knowledge of, or just don’t care about Web3 should be able to have a great experience.
